Hand-thrown white porcelain, speckle glazed vessel with a willow twig, held in loops on the rim with hand spun twine.
The piece is made from white porcelain and thrown on the potter’s wheel. It features a softly rolled rim and a speckled shiny glaze on the surface. After being fired, a willow twig is placed through porcelain loops on the rim and kept in place with hand-spun linen twine.
This vessel is an older piece from my collection and is thicker-walled and heavier than my usual pieces, making it a little on the sturdy side. I know how it feels.
The work is inspired by the colours and tones of the Sussex landscape where the flint and chalk fields of the South Downs provide a distinctive backdrop. The addition of twigs and other natural materials in my collection further connects my work to the local landscape and, for me, represents a connection to place and an enduring sense of home and belonging.
