About the course:
Learn to throw with porcelain or improve your skills with a one-to-one, or two person, throwing course at my studio. The six-week course is suitable for beginners or improvers or or those who would like to try throwing with porcelain. The sessions can be tailored to your needs, focusing on what you would like to work on, but can include getting to grips with centring on the wheel, throwing cups, bowls and jugs, improving your techniques, turning/trimming vessels and adding handles.
The sessions are designed to be suitable for any level, including: beginners, those new to porcelain, those wanting to explore ideas and processes, or for those wishing to improve their existing skills.
The sessions include as much clay as you need for throwing, professional throwing tools and equipment, tea and biscuits, and full tuition from me. I have two Shimpo wheels and have ‘Audrey Blackman’ porcelain and ‘white fleck’ stoneware available to use. You can choose up to 12 finished pieces from the course to be glazed and fired by me using simple slips and glazes in use at the studio. Additional pieces can be fired on request for a small additional cost. Finished pieces can be collected 8-10 weeks after the workshop date.
The price is:
One-to-one course: £590
For six morning or afternoon sessions (two and a half hours per session), where you will have personal attention to work on your throwing skills
Two-person course: £450 each
For six morning or afternoon sessions (two and a half hours per session), with two participants, where you will have a wheel each and I will work with you both to improve your throwing skills.
Dates can be arranged with me to suit you and can usually be booked for Mondays, Tuesdays, or Thursdays, morning or afternoon.
Suggested times are 10.00am to 12.30am or 2.30 to 5.00pm
Sessions are held at my ceramic workshop at Atelier 51, Providence Place Brighton, BN7 1LT, UK.
After booking, the course may be cancelled by you up to three weeks before the start with a full refund. For cancellations within three weeks, I’m sorry I won’t be able to offer a refund unless I am able to fill your booking with someone else. In the unlikely event I need to cancel the whole course for whatever reason I will offer a full refund.
Dates can be arranged on a timetable that works for both you and me. However, once the course has started, missed dates can’t be refunded. If there are dates you can’t do and you know in advance, let me know and I will try to see if I, (or both attendees for a two-person course ) can find another alternate date. However, date changes can be hard to work around, so please bear in mind I won’t be able offer a reduction or refund for missed dates.
